The Physical Journey to a Digital World
My upper educational career has been almost fully composed of a digital landscape in some capacity. Whether it was homework online, digital learning through COVID, or just videos and different workshops put on by teachers, most classes and lectures were almost entirely digital. With that being said, that has not always been the case. Let’s take a closer look into how we got to this point of a digital age.
The Creative
Process:
The technology we have today would’ve been unfathomable 100 years ago, so how did we get here? The innovative process of technology and the digital world has been created through computer scientists and engineers who sought to solve 3 big problems, communication, efficiency, and accessibility. Through trial and error, fails and successes, we slowly gained more and more knowledge and insight about the digital world as we know it today.
The Social
Environment:
The digital age wasn’t a one man wrecking crew, but countless people who put in the time and effort to try and discover something new. The social environment, included academic institutions, corporate settings, and communities, all who played a vital role in shaping the technology. One of the most notable today, Silicon Valley, became a hotspot for technological innovation due to its newfound culture of risk-taking, collaboration, and entrepreneurial mindset.
Notable Visionaries
to Know:
There were plenty of key figures who played a large role in this development:
– Alan Turing: The godfather of computing. He is the one who laid the framework of what everyone else was to follow. Today, the Turing Award is one of the highest achievements you can receive that honors computer science excellence.
– Steve Jobs: Helped bring computers to the international stage, and helped mass produce the products. He helped make computers accessible and a realistic option for daily households and institutions
– Mark Zuckerberg: With social media, completely revolutionized how we communicate with one another. Really putting an emphasize on the 3 keys from earlier, Communication, Efficiency, and Accessibility.
